The Airway Management in Sedated Patients program is designed to meet the regulations* for enteral sedation permit qualifying, as well as all sedation permit (enteral and parenteral) recertification set by the Missouri Dental Board. It’s intended for dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, and physicians, as well as Missouri dentists who bring in a nurse anesthetist.
Knowledge of airway management and maintenance is critical for any dental professional. In addition to written self-study materials, this in-depth course includes video modules from five different experts who present the necessary tools for preventing an airway emergency and the ability to manage one should it occur, plus explore the factors that can compromise the sedation patient’s airway.
Jim Bovia, EMT-P, will review basic life support skills, the life-saving tools every dental practice needs on hand, and discuss the role of the entire team during a cardiac emergency. Anesthesiologist and pediatric specialist, Dr. Steve Yun, MD, will review upper respiratory infections (URIs)and adverse airway events in children. Dr. Allan Schwartz, DDS, CRNA, presents laryngospasm concepts for the sedation patient, including the anatomy of the airway and the protective mechanisms the human body has in place to safeguard the airway. Through DOCS Education’s Dean of Faculty, Dr. Anthony Feck, you will learn to understand, manage, and maintain patients with respiratory conditions as an important part of patient care – with and without sedation. Lastly, Dr. Stanley F. Malamed, DDS, will review prevention, recognition, and management of respiratory distress in a dental environment.
