We know all too well how important dentistry is.
But one convict took this belief to a new level when he broke out of a Swedish prison solely for the sake of receiving dental treatment…then turned himself back in after the treatment was completed.
Yep. You heard right. The 51-year old escaped the Östragård open prison in Vänersborg last month after guards ignored his repeated requests to see a dentist.
With an inflamed molar causing him unbearable pain, and no hope in sight of receiving help, he dashed straight out of jail and into a nearby town where he visited a dental surgeon who extracted his tooth.
The first thing he did after his treatment was complete? He handed himself over the cops, who drove him straight back to prison.
When asked about his dental adventure, the convict responded, "I was all swollen in the face. I just couldn't stand it anymore. … I'm still happy to have gotten rid of the toothache."
As for the repercussions of high-tailing it out of prison?
One day added onto his month-long sentence.
