"I brought some of the team with me, including two hygienists and our assistant manager—all of whom are extremely reluctant to try new things. I sat at lunch today listening with amazement as they told me what we need to do to implement this in our practice! Your enthusiasm is infectious, and I will be sending the rest of the team to this course!"- Karen Harriman, DDS
DOCS Education considers the dental team a vital part of good patient care and urges every dentist to bring at least one staff member to courses. States differ in their sedation regulations. Visit SedationRegulations.com to learn more.

Michael Silverman, DMD - President and Co-founder DOCS / International Lecturer
Dr. Michael D. Silverman is a globally-recognized dental innovator, educator, author, and advocate for patients' rights. He has changed the way thousands of dentists practice and continues to impact dentistry as a champion of safe and effective oral and IV sedation.
As a general dentist with over 24 years of experience, Dr. Silverman first began taking advanced courses in anesthesia and sedation after noticing how many of his patients exhibited dental fear and anxiety. Utilizing his training, he then began developing safe and effective oral sedation dentistry techniques and protocols. Seeing the tremendously positive impact sedation treatments had on his patients—and the incredible need throughout the U.S., he joined forces with Dr. Anthony S. Feck to found the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, now DOCS Education, in 1999.
With the help of sedation dentistry, Dr. Silverman has restored the dental health of more than 2,750 high-anxiety, high-fear patients. As a faculty member and the President of DOCS Education, he has taught thousands of dentists and their teams how to safely implement sedation into their own practices.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and a passionate believer in lifelong Continuing Education (CE), Dr. Silverman has attended more than 850 hours of postdoctoral training and CE between 1985 and 2009. He also completed a mini-residency in IV sedation at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, NY.
Dr. Silverman lectures across the country on the methods, techniques, and power of sedation dentistry. He has presented at conferences for the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Yankee Dental Congress, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, American Association of Endodontists, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and many others.
Additionally, Dr. Silverman serves as a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and as a Diplomat of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He has been awarded a lifetime membership in the Crown Council.
His expertise on oral conscious sedation has been sought by over a dozen state dental boards. His works are published in Dental Economics, Woman Dentist Journal, Alpha Omegan, International Magazine of Oral Implantology, Dentistry Today, Dear Doctor, and the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, among others.
Dr. Silverman's extensive dental background and entrepreneurial spirit led to the development of two additional dental-focused companies: RAMP, the world's largest full-service dental advertising agency, and b2d Marketing, a rapidly growing dental and medical marketing company. He currently serves as the President of both organizations.
Dr. Silverman resides in Seattle, WA, where he enjoys spending time with his family. He is an avid outdoorsman with interests in rock climbing, hiking, bicycling, fishing, and skiing.
Many dental insurance carriers will pay for sedation. Again, there is wide variability in this area.
