  1. How did you choose dentistry?

When I was a child I had a lot of dental problems: I was a thumb sucker, got hit in the mouth with a see-saw, and my brother knocked out two teeth with a rock! I was fortunate to have great dentists throughout these times, and their repair work really increased by self esteem. After those experiences, I couldn’t imagine going into any other profession.

  2. What do you like most/least about dentistry?

I truly enjoy working with patients and try to meet all my patients’ dental needs. I continuously train to be able to successfully complete their necessary treatments and love continuing education. General lab work is what I like the least about dentistry and would like to leave it to those who are skilled in the area!

  3. What are the biggest challenges facing dentistry today?

Many people cannot afford anything in this economy, and banks aren’t loaning money to patients or dental offices. People want—and need—the treatments and procedures we offer but cannot fit it into their budget these days. The biggest challenge often is finding a plan the patient can afford. I’ve reopened a two-chair practice after semi-retirement in 2009, and it has since expanded to four chairs. You push through it.

  4. Who is/was your mentor in the dental world?

I took a course from Dr. Omar Reed a few years ago. Dr. Reed challenged us to think outside the box. He focused on quality dentistry with better time management. It helped me increase profit and decrease stress. His theories have improved my son and my practice as well as professional lives.
