The digital version of DOCS Digest spring edition is here! This issue focuses on returning to the fundamentals of sedation to establish a solid base of knowledge in order to grow one's skills. Dr. Anthony S. Feck, DOCS Education Dean of Faculty, expounds on the concept in his "Back to Basics" message, stating "Within an examination of where we've come from, we hope to better understand where we're going as individuals and as a profession as a whole." We looked at several aspects of getting back to basics in the spring issue. John Bitting, the DOCS Education regulatory counsel—who is featured in the Digest's "Faculty Profile"—writes about a special sect of clinicians known as "CE Junkies" who attend our sedation courses over and over again to gain a deeper understanding of the information. You'll find Bitting's insightful commentary on CE Junkies in the "I [heart] CE" article. We also feature two veteran sedation dentists in our "Q&A" and "Member Spotlight" pieces, one of whom is a die-hard CE Junkie. In "From Inception to Innovation: DOCS Education Over the Years," we look back at the very foundation of DOCS Education and the innovations the organization has made in the last year. Within that same vein, we also announce the upcoming launch of DOCS Education's new online CE portal in "The Future of Education"—get the scoop on this exciting system update! Sometimes understanding and advancement comes not from introspection but from looking at other fields of practice. In "Dental Debate: The Pros and Cons of Dental Therapists" we investigate the argument over the introduction of dental therapists into the practice landscape. Read about two examples of successful dental therapy programs and the beef that the ADA has with this mid-level position. Click here to read the Spring 2015 DOCS Digest now!
