The fourth day of Sedation Safety Week focuses on how you should advise your patient to aid you in practicing safe sedation dentistry. When using sedation, the patient is often anxious. It’s crucial to make sure you know all the information about your patient that’s necessary as well as all which forms are recommended to keep on hand: This will keep you prepared as the highest level, which in turn helps ease your patient. New patient presedation appointment: The patient needs to sign a sedation consent form prior to the sedation appointment so the patient is fully aware of everything that will take place on the day of the appointment. Have your patients complete a health history form. The document could provide you with vital information that the patient may forget to mention otherwise. No matter what, make sure your patients inform you of every medication they are taking. Drug interaction knowledge should be a top priority when using sedation medications. Click here if you would like to purchase a subscription to the drug interaction software, Lexi-Comp®ONLINE. Urge your patient to stay in communication with you. Assure them that if they become increasingly nervous between the consultation and sedation appointment, you will always make time to talk to them about the procedure—and stay true to your word.
