CHICAGO - The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the authority on children’s oral health, inducted the new President and other Officers and Trustees for the AAPD Board of Trustees during its 64th Annual Session at the New York Hilton on May 26th, 2011.

President - Rhea M. Haugseth, DMD

Haugseth has been an AAPD member for 29 years and has maintained a private practice in Marietta, Georgia. She attended dental school at University of Louisville and received her pediatric dental certificate from Case Western Reserve University. She has served as the AAPD’s president-elect (2010-2011), vice president (2009-2010), secretary-treasurer (2008-2009), parliamentarian (2005-2006) and the AAPD’s District III trustee (2002-2005). Haugseth is a fellow of AAPD and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is also past president of the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (2010-2011). Dr. Haugseth’s AAPD presidential agenda will focus on welcoming all dialogue that will advance its efforts in the fight for children’s oral health. Through their dedicated advocacy endeavors, the AAPD will continue to provide a voice for all children, so that a foundation for a lifetime of oral and overall health is established in every home. Haugseth’s family includes her father, four brothers and their wives, six nieces and nephews and her Wheaten Terrier, Maggie. She is a national media spokesperson for the AAPD.

President-Elect - Joel H. Berg, DDS, M.S.

Berg has been a member of the AAPD for 25 years. He received his pediatric dentistry certificate and attended dental school at the University of Iowa. He most recently served as vice president (2010-2011), secretary-treasurer (2009-2010) and the AAPD’s District VI trustee (2006-2009). Berg is also a past president of Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: the Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition to his leadership roles with the Academy, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a fellow of the International College of Dentists. Berg is the Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs and Chair, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle. He is also the Director of Dentistry at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the holder of the Lloyd and Kay Chapman Chair for Oral Health. Berg resides in Bellevue, Washington and has two daughters, Dena and Jessica. He has lectured in more than 30 countries and enjoys studying the viticulture of Washington State and surfing in Hawaii. Berg is a national media spokesperson for the AAPD.

Vice President - Warren A. Brill, DMD, M.S., (Hygiene), Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

Brill has a full-time private practice in Baltimore, Maryland. He has been an AAPD member for the past 19 years. He received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Maryland and the School of Medicine of Johns Hopkins University. Brill is a former secretary-treasurer (2010-2011) and member of the board of trustees of the AAPD, representing District II. Prior to his Board election, he was chair of the AAPD Council on Government Affairs and expert consultant to the Council on Dental Benefit Programs. He has also served as chair of the Council on Dental Benefit Programs. Brill is chair of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (MAPD) Legislative Affairs Committee (2000-2011), member of the MAPD Executive Committee (2000-2011) and chair of the MAPD Annual Meeting General Arrangements Committee (2006-2011). Brill also serves as a consultant to the Food and Drug Administration, section on Oral Medical Devices. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. Presently, he is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland. Brill is the 2009 recipient of the AAPD Pediatric Dentist of the Year Award. He resides in Maryland with his wife, Eva. They have two daughters (and sons-in-law), one grandson, one granddaughter and a frisky Airedale Terrier, Oliver. Brill is a national media spokesperson for the AAPD.

Secretary - Treasurer - Edward H. Moody, Jr., DDS

He is in private practice in Morristown, Tennessee. Moody is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, and received his certificate in pediatric dentistry from the Medical College of Virginia. He has been a member of the AAPD for 24 years. A Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, he is active in numerous professional organizations, including the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, where he served on the Board of Directors and completed his term as president in 2004. His involvement in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has included seats on the Council for Clinical Affairs, Annual Session Committee, Local Arrangements Committee for the 2000 Annual Session in Nashville, PAC Steering Committee, and as Chair of the Scientific Program Committee, for which he was awarded the Merle C. Hunter Leadership Award in 2003. Moody recently completed a term on the AAPD Board of Trustees where he was a member of the Budget & Finance and Strategic Planning Committees, and was Board Liaison to the PAC Steering Committee and the Council on Communications. A Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, his community activities include a term on the Executive Board of the Great Smoky Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America, positions on numerous church councils and committees, and a long standing membership on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Morristown.
